CNC lathe machining length vs Z-axis travel
A CNC lathe’s Z-axis travel is not the same specification as its maximum workpiece length with a chuck. Tiezheng TC70B1600L lists 1580 mm workpiece length and 1600 mm Z travel; TC100B2200L lists 2000 mm and 2200 mm. Compare the two fields separately, then confirm chuck engagement, tool access and support for the actual drawing. Do not select a machine by its model suffix or axis travel alone.

Which length should I use when comparing CNC lathes?
Use the published maximum workpiece length with chuck for the initial length comparison. Keep Z-axis travel as a separate motion specification. Neither figure alone approves the finished part, fixture or machining sequence. The examples below retain the published chuck condition; they are not interchangeable machine capacities.
Data: Tiezheng model specification tables, checked 17 October 2026. Values below are in millimetres. Exact workholding and supplied configuration require drawing review.
| Model | Maximum workpiece length with chuck (mm) | Z-axis travel (mm) |
|---|---|---|
| TC70B1600L | 1580 | 1600 |
| TC100B2200L | 2000 | 2200 |
| TC100B12000L | 12000 | 13000 |
Does 2200 mm Z travel confirm a 2200 mm workpiece?
No. TC100B2200L lists 2000 mm maximum workpiece length with chuck and 2200 mm Z-axis travel. A 2200 mm workpiece is not established by that travel figure. Ask for review of the workholding arrangement and the complete drawing rather than treating the model name as an approved part length.
What should accompany a long-part inquiry?
- Overall blank and finished lengths, maximum diameters and the features to machine.
- Material and hardness, tolerances and surface-finish requirements.
- Proposed chuck grip, tailstock or other support requirements, and tool-access constraints.
- Batch quantity, operation sequence and loading method. Leave unknown items open for review.
Questions before requesting a configuration
Does a longer Z travel mean a longer part will fit?
Not by itself. Compare the workpiece-length field and its stated workholding condition. Review the drawing, chuck and support arrangement separately.
Can I combine maximum disc diameter with maximum workpiece length?
No combined capacity is established by two independent maximum values. Confirm the complete part geometry and selected configuration together.
Are these values standard or optional configurations?
The length rows used here do not state standard or optional status. Request the supplied configuration explicitly; an unmarked value does not establish what is included in a quotation.
Do I need to choose a model before contacting Tiezheng?
No. Start with your part and required operations. If you choose a model, the links below keep that model attached to the inquiry.
